The 'True Wives of Beverly Hills star's latest lawsuit says she can't pay the amount she allegedly owes since 2019.
Erica Girardi said she couldn't afford the taxes, which amounted to more than $2 million.
In a new statement filed in Los Angeles County on Tuesday and received by news on Thursday, Erica claims she is unable to pay the $2,226,985.77 California taxes she allegedly failed to deliver in 2019 had been born.
The documents show that 50-year-old Erika received the tax assessment in May 2022.
"I tried to understand the basis of this tax bill with the help of my manager, who is also an accountant," the document said. "I can't afford the California Franchise Council tax bill."
The True Wives of Beverly Hills star says she doesn't know if the IRS wants "custodial" about her $750,000 earrings, which center on her husband Tom Girardi's 2020 bankruptcy case.
In January, Erica was asked to deliver diamond earrings that were a gift from Tom. At the time, Guardian court documents obtained by PEOPLE stated that the earrings were purchased with funds from a client's trust at Tom Girardi Keese's law firm and written off as a tax expense. Therefore, the guardian requested that the earrings be returned and sold to pay off Tom's creditors. In a recent June 14 statement, Erika said: "I have never worked for the law firm GK. I have never managed GK's finances. And have never had access to or know anything about how TG or GK manage their clients' escrow accounts.
"From what I know, TG and our family community had considerable wealth at that time, and TG and GK had huge incomes. "I have no reason to doubt the source of the funds TG used to buy the earrings," he continued. "I have never known or heard from anyone that any gift TG gave me at any time, including earrings in 2007, was bought with money that does not belong to TG or anyone else's.
