The 45-year-old singer revealed in a post shared on Twitter that her father is recovering in hospital after a "big fall." The news came with Shakira's announcement on the same day she and partner Gerard Pique split.
"Guys, I have a lot of worrying news that I was recently seen in an ambulance in Barcelona," the Hips Don't Lie singer began.
"I just need to let you know that these photos are from last weekend (28) when, unfortunately, my father fell ill, and I accompanied him to the hospital in an ambulance where he is now recovering." Shakira added, "Please send all your best wishes, and as always, thank you for all your love and support."
Shakira's post about her father came shortly after she and 35-year-old Pique announced that they were splitting up in a joint statement. "We are sorry to confirm that we are separating," the couple said on Saturday. "We ask for privacy at this time for the sake of our children, which is our highest priority."
