The Chainsmokers' once-popular song went viral again after the Supreme Court ousted Rowe vs. Wade.
His 2017 hit "Paris" included the lyrics, "If we go down, we go down together," a mantra that resonates with TikTok users eager to offer their support and express solidarity after Friday's decision.
Many are using this powerful new lyrical voice to offer more than just a message of support. Some users suggested a so-called "safe place" to go "camping," a move that came about due to Roe vs. Wade. Others used audio to express their sadness at SCOTUS' decision, and a video, in particular, caught the attention of one of the artists themselves.
@moschultemusic wrote alongside the video of him crying as he synced the lyrics to "Paris": "You think the Chainsmokers know their little pop song about Paris will be used to fight for reproductive rights?" Q— The Supreme Court. "
Drew Taggart, one of the two artists who formed the duo (the other being Alex Pal), performed a duet in the video to speak on behalf of The Chainsmokers about their feelings on the matter. The 32-year-old responded: "We didn't see this coming, but we're glad something we wrote was used to support a cause we believe in."
In the video, the excited-looking artist lip-syncs the text "we go down together" with the user. One user commented, "Our Unexpected King to Choose," which the artist liked. Another wrote, "The video under this audio really gives me hope," which the artist also liked.
Taggart posted his interaction with the original video on his Instagram with the same key text as the caption.
