"If we have no hope, we have nothing," said Daniel White, whose wife Pia Reyes suffered a brain hemorrhage 20 weeks pregnant.

When Daniel White and his wife Pia Reyes found out they were pregnant in February, they felt like they were in for a miracle. But over the weekend of Remembrance Day, Pia suffered a brain hemorrhage that put her in a coma at 22 weeks pregnant. So now Daniel is praying for another miracle - while fighting to save himself and his son.

"There's so much we're fighting for and hoping for," Daniel, a 42-year-old analyst who works in planning and development for Fairfax County, Virginia, told PEOPLE. "This is very valuable to us."

The couple, who love golf, concerts, cooking together, and trying new restaurants, first met on Match.com about eight years ago before getting married on August 8, 2019.

"He was the most compassionate person you could meet. He never thinks for himself," Daniel said of Pia, 42, who works as an analyst for the World Bank International Finance Corporation.

"He was always think of other people," he added. "He's just sweet. He would do anything for anyone he met. Whatever it takes, he'll lean on you to make you happy.

When the couple began exploring the possibility of having children, doctors informed them they needed to undergo in vitro fertilization (IVF). So they were overjoyed when they found out in late February that Pia had gotten pregnant without infertility treatment. "It just happened," said Daniel.

They decided to name their future son, who will be born on October 17, Noah and bought a new home in Herndon for their growing family in mid-April. After everything was settled, the couple headed to the North Carolina External Bank to visit Daniel's family on Hatteras Island for the week leading up to Memorial Day.

Pia is having a bit of a headache this Thursday. Daniel said that he took over-the-counter pain relievers, which at first seemed to help, but the pain persisted.
