Lawyers have been investigating Cheryl Sandberg, director of operations for Meta Platforms, for several years, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday, citing people familiar with the matter.

Several employees were questioned in connection with the Meta investigation, Facebook's parent company, the WSJ reported, adding that the investigation had been ongoing since at least last fall. Meta and Sandberg did not immediately respond to Reuter's comments.

Activities under consideration include Meta-Contributor's work supporting the Sandberg Foundation, Lean In, and the writing and marketing of their second book, Option B: Problem Solving, Sustainability, and Fun. Added to the report.

In early June, Sandberg, whose close partnership with CEO Mark Zuckerberg fueled the growth of the world's largest social network, announced he was leaving the company after 14 years. Growth CEO Javier Olivan will take over as chief operating officer, though Zuckerberg said he has no plans to directly replace Sandberg's role within the company's existing structure.

Sandberg said he would continue to serve on Meta's board after leaving the company in the fall.
