"We met quickly," added Alton Brown of working with co-host Kristen Kish as he celebrated the relaunch of the Napa Valley Film Festival event.

Alton Brown knew that one day he would get a call to return to Kitchen Stadium, the famous stage of the Iron Chef franchise. But there was something else he didn't expect.

The culinary star got a co-host - Kristen Kish from Top Chef. The two food media giants quickly jumped into their new roles as they didn't know each other personally.

"I think we're both a little concerned," Brown, 59, told PEOPLE exclusively at the Napa Valley Film Festival celebrating Netflix's launch. "We didn't know each other, but we got to know each other quickly and had a great time."

The show returns on June 15 after a five-year hiatus, moving from the Food Network to Netflix. This time, Brown is joined by 38-year-old Kish and the acclaimed "Chairman" of the franchise, Mark Daskaskos. Although they didn't meet officially before the first day of filming, Kish and Brown did have ties to the franchise.

Brown is best known for his fame on the Food Network, where he hosted 246 episodes of Iron Chef America from 2004 to 2018. Top Chef season 10 winner Kish also appeared (and lost) on Iron Chef America. Although Brown doesn't know much about Kish, the Korean-born chef knows precisely who his co-hosts are.

"I've been watching it since I was growing up, so it's a culinary icon in my world," Kish told News. However, after a bit of research, Brown's memory of Kish was altered: "He was on Iron Chef - he was robbed," he says.

"Do you see? He's a good friend," Kish joked. "But then he was very polite and said, 'Oh yeah, I remember you.' And then I had a disgusting moment."

The two quickly became friends during filming. "He's probably one of my favorite people on earth," Kish said.
