Under the radiant Los Angeles sun, Jane Wurwand stands outside the inaugural storefront of her skincare brand, Dermalogica. It was in 1983 when she embarked on her journey, conceiving the notion of developing a training program for the industry. "I actually wrote down my first kind of statement of purpose: total world domination of professional skincare," she reminisces.
This humble inception laid the groundwork for a remarkable business trajectory, one she had envisioned from the outset. In addition to establishing her training academy, Wurwand launched Dermalogica's skincare line in 1986.

Today, her products are distributed across over 80 countries, solidifying Dermalogica as one of the most renowned brands in the field.
Transitioning from a cosmetologist to a self-funded entrepreneur, Wurwand now shares her insights on Influential, an unscripted interview series hosted by BBC correspondent Katty Kay.
The show features distinguished guests such as Ina Garten, Misty Copeland, and Michael Lewis. In her episode, Wurwand delves into her business empire and reflects on how she learned to navigate the unknown, a skill she honed from as early as the age of four.
