Parent company Facebook declaed on Tuesday that it would change its stock ticker icon from "META" ahead of the June 9 market open.
Meta changed its name from Facebook in October and said it was part of its ambitions outside of social media. CEO Mark Zuckerberg is passionate about building a metaverse, a science fiction term that includes work and plays in virtual worlds.
At that time, Meta said it would change its stock ticker to MVRS effective December 1. However, in late November, the company announced that it would delay the changes until the first quarter of 2022.
Since then, Roundhill Investments, which uses the ticker META for its Roundhill Ball Metaverse ETF, has announced that it will be discontinuing the ticker symbol. This gives him the freedom to pick up the meta.
Meta says no action is required from the company's shareholders to change the ticker symbol.
