The Devil Wears Prada star has criticized the recent Supreme Court ruling that overturned the constitutional right to abortion Anne Hathaway speaks up.
On Thursday, the 39-year-old actress celebrated The Devil Wears Prada's 16th anniversary with an Instagram post, discussing how the country has changed since the release of the iconic fashion film Roe v. Wade amid an uncertain future.
Hathaway released a carousel of scenes from the film and praised costume designer Patricia Field for dressing the cast in "the most amazing, iconic, and fun costumes that somehow still survive 16 years later." It's magical."
"As I look back on the making of the beloved film that shaped the lives and careers of so much people myself included - I am struck by the fact that the young female characters in this film have combined their lives and careers into one unified nation that respects their right to create decisions about their reproductive health," he wrote. "See you in battle xx." The WeCrashed actress's latest message is not the first time she has campaigned for abortion rights. In May 2019, shortly after Alabama Governor Kay Ivey signed a law banning nearly all abortions in the state Hathaway again defended women's right to vote.
"Yes, the anti-abortion movement is basically about controlling women's bodies on the premise (sincerely to many) of saving lives, and yes, this law is primarily the work of white men, BUT white women sponsored the bill, and women white signed that into law," he wrote on his Instagram post, which included an open-faced protest photo from around that time.
"During our fight, let us also highlight the involvement of white women who made this horrific moment possible and which would - make no mistake - cause the unnecessary and avoidable death of women, a disproportionate proportion of those who were poor and would be black." that you wrote.
