"I feel like my voice as a citizen as an actor wins," Nancy Lee Gran told news at the 49th Daily Emmy Awards after Supreme Court Rowe v. Wade had taken it.
The 66-year-old General Hospital star made several remarks as he walked the red carpet at the 49th Daily Emmy Awards in Pasadena on Friday after the Supreme Court ruled Rowe v. Wade and his constitutional right to abortion were overthrown in 1973.
She wears chic black pants complemented by earrings that read "CHOICE" and a set of jeweled locks emblazoned with the words "BAN OUR BODY." He also writes "REPRODUCTION OF FREEDOM" on his chest and wears a rubber band for some reason. Grahn told news on the red carpet that he "knew the spotlight would be on me" when he decided to make a statement with his ensemble.
"Our audience is mostly women. They are our most important and valuable audience, and I greatly respect women," said Gran. "Today, they were stripped of their dignity because six extremists on the Supreme Court sentenced women to death. So I can't stop smiling at everyone here." The Emmy winner also admitted that some of his fans would disagree with his position. "There's a segment of the audience that is very angry with me, and that's a risk I'm willing to take. I feel like my voice as a citizen is a race to be an actor," Gran said.
For her role as Alexis Davis in General Hospital, where she has starred since 1996, she was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series at the Friday Emmy Awards. The award went to his partner Kelly Thibaut.
Friday's 6-to-3 decision set a precedent for nearly 50 years and gave states the power to pass their own abortion laws. Following the decision, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, and South Dakota have banned abortion in their states after enacting a "trigger ban" that governors imposed after the SCOTUS decision.
