RHODE, a 9-year-old fashion company, has filed a trademark infringement lawsuit against Hailey Bieber after the model debuted with the skincare line of the same name, which is her middle name.

Hailey Baldwin Bieber has been sued for trademark infringement by a 9-year-old fashion company that shares the same name as her skincare line, Rhode - Bieber's middle name.

RHODE clothing brand co-founders Purna Hathau and Phoebe Vickers filed a lawsuit against the 25-year-old model in US District Court for the Southern District of New York on Tuesday, documents received by PEOPLE.

In the documentary, Hathau says he and Vickers founded the company in May 2013 and have since "dedicated themselves to developing and maintaining the RHODE brand through many sacrifices and personal hardships." It is now considered a respected brand, sold in luxury stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus and worn by celebrities such as Beyoncé, Rihanna, and Mindy Kaling. The lawsuit says that RHODE is expected to make $14.5 million this year.

Khatau and Vickers own the RHODE brand for several popular clothing and accessories. According to a statement from Chateau, they have also been seeking expansion into other areas such as household goods and are considering expanding into makeup and skincare. Bieber launched his Rhode skincare line earlier this month, and Khatau said he and Vickers immediately saw the "market confusion" that had undermined their brand.

The lawsuit alleges that Instagram initially promised the designers of the @rhode handle for "sleeping as per Instagram policy, but after initially promising it to us, Instagram decided to allow Ms. Bieber to use it, even though it didn't." Release available until June 8, 2022."

The document also mentions an Instagram post shared with Bieber's personal account (followed by more than 45 million users), which received over 600,000 likes at the time of submission.
