William Henry Gates III popularly known as Bill Gates is the founder of Microsoft Corporation, he was born on 28th October 1955 in Seattle Washington. Gates also showed a special interest in computing and technology at an early age. He was using a General Electric computer in writing his first software program at the age of thirteen. These initial experiences made the author develop a passion towards technology and laid a foundation to the future he was going to be part of.

In the year 1975, Gates quit Harvard University to undertake a business with his old buddy, Paul Allen. The two initially started Microsoft Corporation with the following mission of putting a computer on every desktop and in every home. They started getting a recognition when they helped IBM to create the first personal computer operating system called MS-DOS. Through the consolidation of this partnership, Microsoft established itself in the growing field of personal computing.

Through Gates’ leadership and ability to anticipate major trends in the future of computing, Microsoft quickly became a dominant player in the software market. The most important year in the progress of these personal computers was 1985 with the appearance of the Windows operating system. Windows provided a graphical user interface that allowed people to interface with computers more effectively, thus making personal computing possible. It not only grew the market but also helped Microsoft to cement its position as a leader in the segment.

From his position in Microsoft, Bill Gates retired in 2000 to concentrate on charity work. He is the founder of Microsoft Corporation, and along with his former wife, Melinda Gates, he established the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. It seeks to address some of the major problems affecting the world today such as health, education and poverty. The contributions of these remarkable women have made a positive impact in the society especially in the areas of vaccination, education and poverty Eradication.
